Excellent album Mr. Willi Colon and the unique voice of Celia Cruz, buy it just for the song «Se tambalea» that I find amazing, but find songs like «Yo si soy veneno» with an excellent performance, like «Dice Anton «and finally the theme of» El paraiso», the best times of Salsa. 5.0 de 5 estrellas Great album. I think to my utmost prediction to this fine album is amazing . Willie Colon and Celia Cruz are always at the best. This is their 3rd album together so I don’t care what people opinions are, with their negative criticism of this beautiful album, but I give big respect to people’s remarks as well, this is really classical salsa. Both are well to the top of my favorite list, and these two deserve the respect of their best arrangements, melody, and sound. The first album in which was made in 1977, was is blast to everyone.
Excellent CD and great salsa sound. Like I said before, you won’t and will not find any hardcore salsa like this today because what is producing today of these new salsa comers are boring and is a disaster. This is definitely great music to hear and dance. Willie Colon and Celia Cruz simply the best. God bless Celia Cruz in heaven. 4.0 de 5 estrellas A good album that at times sounds dated. This 1987 release would be Celia Cruz and Willie Colon’s final collaboration. In some ways, it IS an album that DOES sound dated but Celia Cruz was one of those artists with whom it was almost impossible to make a bad album with and (as a result) «The Winners» does have its moments. The album starts off with the self-explanatory «Un Bembe Pa’ Yemaya» (which is a shocking, dated but truly futuristic hybrid of Salsa, House and Techno)—one of the most bizarre and futuristic tunes in the entire Fania catalog and something which had probably never been heard before.
Adam and Eve’s fall and the disaster this represented for all humanity. While the tune itself is quite cheesy, Celia’s improvisations in which she asks for divine help in bringing peace, understanding and an end to wars and hatred do give one plenty of food for thought. The album’s best songs (for me) are «Son Matamoros», «Dice Anton» and «Ache Para Todos»—all of which leave no doubt as to why Celia Cruz was and will always be the Queen of Salsa. Curiously enough, 1987 (the year of this album’s release) was also the year in which Celia Cruz was awarded her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. 5.0 de 5 estrellas Hard knock from critics. I’ve read critical reviews on this album, and once again, I think the experts just like hearing themselves speak. This is a clean and well produced album. It’s very upbeat, and has that unmistakable driving trombone chorus that only Willie Colon could do so well.
